Boho Glam Shoot Featured AGAIN!

Happy Early Birthday to me!  I had no intention of posting another blog this week (I’ve already got two lined up for next week!) but I got an e-mail this morning that the Boho Glam shoot I did back in January with Penny Blooms Floral Design, Iliana Morton Photography, Calculated Whisk, Sweeter by the Dozen Cakes, Unbridled Beauty Makeup Artistry, Classy Covers, and Abbey Party Rentals has been featured a third time – this time by a blog in the UK!  There isn’t much commentary but it made the blog owner “beam.”  Which made me beam right back. 😉

Featured Today on Preggie Pals, Talking Baby Shower Planning!

Some of you may know that I went on vacation with my husband back in April.  We’d been saving up for a long time (like, since before we were married), and making mental plans, and finally just had to pull the trigger.  It was a fantastic recharging of our batteries, and a seriously fun time.

What very few people know, though, is that I was sitting in our hotel in Paris when I got an extremely interesting e-mail.

“I’m hoping you can help me out. I’m looking for an experienced baby shower planner in the San Diego area. I host/produce an online radio show called “Preggie Pals” which is focused on new and expecting parents, and I need an expert for a show we’re taping in May about baby showers/sprinkles. Is this an area/service you offer and would feel comfortable talking about?”

Confession: I once seriously considered voice acting as a part-time career and even narrated a training video (that has long-since been replaced) about unemployment in New Mexico.  No, really, I did!  Don’t laugh!

So there was really no way I could turn down the opportunity to ham it up.  Er, I mean, educate moms-to-be about baby shower planning. 🙂

Honestly, I was honored to be asked.  I jumped at the chance.  And Sunny, the “Mommy-in-Charge” at New Mommy Media, the company producing Preggie Pals and their sister shows (Parent Savers and The Boob Group), was so welcoming and so nice…  I am so happy I did.

Preggie Pals

We taped this show back in mid-May; I was on my way to a wedding right afterwards, and the mommies on the panel were all about a month and a half away from their due dates.  When I checked in with Sunny last week, she told me that 2 of the 3 babies had been born already…  I’m so excited for them!  They really made this non-mommy feel comfortable during my interview, and I appreciated that very much!

You’ll have to listen to the interview itself to hear everything I had to say – we talked budget, etiquette, expectations, trends, and even what to do when someone wants to throw you a shower you don’t really want…  I really tried to emphasize what a shower is about – showing love and support for the new parents – and we all agreed that it’s an important part of having a new child (even an adoption or second baby).  I loved being able to share my expertise, and learned from the mommies’ experience too!

You can check out the whole interview on New Mommy Media’s website!

Edited on 7/05 – WE’RE LIVE!!!  I haven’t even listened to the show myself, yet…  But I’m SO excited to announce that it’s live and available right now!!!

Check it out!

Desmond’s Circus-Themed 1st Birthday Party featured on Kara’s Party Ideas!

I just happened to look at my blog’s stats yesterday…  And noticed a new referrer.  And clicked through.  And realized that Kara’s Party Ideas – one of my favorite party planning blogs – featured Desmond’s Circus-Themed 1st Birthday Party!!!  I just submitted it earlier this month and thought, “Well, it’s worth a shot!”  And they obviously liked it!!!  I.am.so.excited!!!!  Go check it out and leave us some love in the comments!!! 😉

"Come One, Come All, for One Night Only, the Amazing Desmond Will Astound and Mystify You!"

Boho Glam Shoot Featured on Urban Style: The Wedding Network’s Blog!

I’m not sure if you caught it in the midst of all my posts and tweets about yesterday’s (fabulous!gorgeous!OMGamazing!) shoot, but on Saturday our Boho Glam Inspiration Shoot was featured on the blog for Urban Style: The Wedding Network!!!  This shoot is near and dear to my heart and I amthrilled that other people love it as much as those of us who actually created it!

The hardest part about designing – whether it be a shoot, a wedding, or just a party – is taking that deep breath just beforehand and trusting that everyone involved “gets” it.  It could go sideways – there’s no way I could actually be responsible for everything (I’m not a baker or florist, for example, and I’m a terrible photographer!!!).  So any time that a decent amount of design is involved in any event or photo shoot, trust is a huge factor.  Of course, it’s easy to trust when you have an excellent team – which we did! 🙂

Please head over to Urban Style: The Wedding Network’s blog, and leave us some love!  The owner, Sara, is super duper nice (and asked me to submit more! EEE!!!) and works to connect wedding vendors socially (which sounds a bit weird, but think about how often we’re asked to recommend each other…  Networking = the ability to think “Hey, I have a couple who needs XYZ…  I wonder if Awesome Vendor I Met Last Month would be able to help?”) in addition to showcasing beautiful work!  I’m so happy to have been featured! 🙂

Boho Glam Shoot Featured on Ceremony Blog!

I was at Disneyland on Friday with friends when I got a phone call from Desiree at Penny Blooms Floral Design.  She didn’t leave a message, so I texted her when I saw.  And then I went on Facebook as I was waiting for my friends to get their lunches.  And I saw why she’d called.

Our Boho Glam shoot was featured on Ceremony Blog!

I’m SUPER excited about it!!!  Of course seeing the feature reminded me that I’m painfully behind with my own blogging.  Hopefully once I finish my website I can pick up where I left off.  Hopefully. 🙂

Rogue Wedding Invitations!

March was print materials month around Events by Elisa.  From the entire (classic, be achy) printable suite (table names, sweets buffet tags, programs, menus, escort cards, Out of Town bags, etc.) for Michelle and Dave’s wedding to the (modern, typographic) three-piece invitation suite for Chris and Emma’s wedding to the simple (henna-inspired, elegant) one-piece invitation for Rogue Bride, I spent most of the month in front of the computer!

Now all the pieces are done, printed and to the clients.  And I’m so proud of them.  At last week’s wedding, Dave (the groom) told me he was so surprised (in a good way) with all the finishing touches I’d made.  I got a text from Emma when she received her invitations that had over a dozen exclamation points.  And Friday (when I was at Disneyland with friends) I got an e-mail from Rogue Bride with the subject line, “LOVE THEM!”

Have I said how much I adore my job?  Let me just say it again.  I adore my job.

Anyway, Rogue Bride blogged her invitations.  And she does love them! 🙂  I do too.  That paisley is one of my favorites!!!  And she took a much prettier photo than I could have (although I’ll share Chris and Emma’s sometime because they’re super fun, even if I have to take photos myself).  I’m so happy I could make her happy!!!!

Also, if you visit my website any time soon you’ll notice that it’s under construction.  Finally and officially.  I was able to get one critical piece working yesterday and hope to have it completely redesigned within the next two weeks!

Natalie’s Under the Sea Baby Shower Featured on Baby Lifestyles!

Lots of big things happening at Events by Elisa behind the scenes…  I can’t wait to share them with you (it will happen, soon).  In the mean time, I just found out that Natalie’s Under the Sea Baby Shower was featured this week on Baby Lifestyles!  Their editor e-mailed me in February saying she’d seen the party on my blog and asking if they could feature it; of course I said yes!

Head on over to Baby Lifestyles to check it out, and while you’re there take a look at all the other gorgeous inspiration there! 🙂

McAwesome Table Runner DIY Featured on Rogue Bride!

A couple of weeks back, I posted the McAwesome wedding here on my blog.  Within an hour, I got an e-mail with this subject line: “Holy Sweet Mother of God Elisa – McAwesome wedding is !@@##$$%”.

It was one of the favorite people I have met through the process of planning weddings this year, Lauren of Rogue Bride!  She continued:

I feel like I downed two pots of coffee I’m so excited about the
McAwesome wedding. Oh My God. Can I borrow or buy like all of it?
Especially the elephants and moroccan lanterns. Serious here. Are they
selling? You are amazing! And those paper runners are inspired.

They’re probably submitting that wedding somewhere amazing (Offbeat
Bride? Broke-Ass Bride? Wedding Nouveau? Rockn’Roll Bride?), but would
you do a DIY tutorial for Rogue Bride on those runners?

Just wow.

Now, how could I possibly refuse such a request? 😉

Actually I’m honored to be a guest blogger today, featured on her renegade wedding planning site!  And the title she gave my post makes me blush. 🙂  Love you lots my friend – and thank you so much!!!

Logo Design: The Bridal Kool-Aid Cocktail Hour

A few weeks ago, I blogged briefly about being a featured vendor on Rogue Bride.  I was fortunate to be able to meet up with Lauren in person for happy hour not too long afterward, and I learned all about her new podcast with Christie from Hindsight Bride, “The Bridal Kool-Aid Cocktail Hour.”  It’s all about making good choices for yourself in your wedding planning process (rather than following the crowd, spending unnecessarily, and “drinking the kool-aid”).

Now, I love beautiful over-the-top amazing and/or frilly weddings as much as the next girl, but as I have said over and over, there is no one way to plan a wedding, and there is no reason you can’t plan a beautiful wedding without spending a ton of money.  It’s all about being realistic – and creative – with your budget.  Which is why I enjoyed the perspective so much at the Cocktail Hour – it’s all about making smart choices, with a good helping of snark.  Seriously these two ladies crack me up.

Lauren and Christie asked me if I’d be up for creating a logo for the podcast, and of course I said yes!

They gave me a font they loved, a color, some ideas, and said “go for it!”  I started off with the idea of doing a traditional “graphic” logo in Illustrator and even made a couple of attempts at a cocktail glass.  But I have to tell you that it was boring, boring, boring.  This show is anything but boring!  The most important part of graphic design, in my opinion, is editing, during both design conception and execution.  In other words, I knew I had to edit my original approach to the project.  That’s when I realized that what this project needed was a photograph.  A really interesting photograph.

I’m not a photographer, so the task was daunting.  I actually started off with a bunch of photos of the full cocktail glass with the engagement ring (not mine!) floating inside, but I wasn’t in love with the way they looked.  More boring.  More idea editing.

I spilled a little bit (actively, taking photos of the spillage).  I just started playing around with the spill and realized that I really liked the look, and that the spilled drink went well with the irreverence of the whole show.  So I styled and shot and restyled and reshot and finally came up with this:

Original Photo

I loved the imagery of the spilled cocktail with the engagement ring!  All it needed was some processing (aka: more editing, this time of the photo itself), and about 2 hours over Skype laughing until my stomach hurt (and nerding out over the English language) with Christie and Lauren.

The resulting logo is subtle and edgy, interesting and fun.  We all love it.  It’s easily one of my favorite design pieces ever, and I’m so proud of it!

The Bridal Kool Aid Cocktail Hour

The second podcast (“Forget the Cake, Let Them Drink Booze”) went live this morning, and it’s SO good!  If you are planning your wedding, or have ever planned a wedding, or like weddings…  Or just like snark…  It’s totally worth checking out on iTunes or by clicking on the logo below!!!  (iTunes is being stupid right now, so I’ll update the link as soon as it’s started behaving again!)
